Frequently Asked Questions

We’re so glad you’re here. You’ve discovered our floors and have questions. Trust us we get it. We’re the ones “disrupting” the flooring industry with a better way to add hardwood flooring to your space.

We really don’t like being called disrupters. Rather, we are a team of innovators and craftsmen who really care about quality. We’re pretty nice too.  We hope we answer your questions below, but if not, reach out and we’ll be happy to chat about our products.

Purchasing

Why are Steller hardwood floors exceptional?

A Steller floor is assembled using plastic clips instead of nails and glue, which means that the natural properties of the wood are supported in a floating format. Your flooring can be easily repaired, replaced, or even resold for any reason, which reduces the long-term cost of your flooring. Installing a Steller floor is four times faster than a traditional floor, and our flooring can be installed over any flat subfloor including OSB and concrete. Steller flooring is pre-finished and comes sealed on all sides to resist changes from moisture.

How do I purchase a Steller Hardwood Floor?

Our technical specialists will be happy to work with you and/or your contractor on every step of the process from ordering through installation. We ship our flooring directly to your installation store directly from our manufacturing facility in central Pennsylvania.

Does Steller ship flooring abroad?

We offer F.O.B. shipping for international shipments, which allows you to use the carrier and shipping method of your choice. We can assist with customs paperwork where needed, and we always pack your flooring carefully so that it can ship safely anywhere in the world.

How much does a Steller floor cost?

Our specialists are excited to work with you to find the right Steller Floor for your flooring project. You can learn more about our pricing in our product guide, and in the recent Fine Homebuilding article about our floors.

Installation

What kind of underlayment should I use with a Steller hardwood floor?

You can learn more about installing a Steller hardwood floor in our installation guide, but the simple answer is that we always recommend a moisture barrier like 6 mil poly. Felt roofing paper has worked well in prior installations, and a light foam is also likely to succeed in cases where more compliance is desired. However, some underlayments are too soft and won’t allow our snapping system to work. If you have questions about your specific underlayment, please talk with our technical specialists during the ordering process.

How does a Steller floor arrive at the installation site?

We pack your floor very carefully and ship it via LTL freight with insurance. The freight company will call ahead for a delivery appointment and will have a lift-gate available to remove the shipment from the truck. We recommend moving the shipment into a garage or climate-controlled space within 24 hours.

How does a Steller floor respond to very dry or wet climates?

Like all hardwood floors, Steller floors will respond to climate over long periods of time. Our flooring is designed to match the human comfort zone (60-85 degrees F, 35-50% humidity). Learn more on our blog!

No call centers here. Just our team in central Pennsylvania who genuinely cares about the craft. Get in touch with any questions.
