Ash

Ash could be one of the most unique and wonderful wood flooring options available in North America, and unfortunately, this flooring type is becoming rare very quickly.

Description

Style

In color, Ash hardwood flooring can be quite variable with both light golden areas and rich dark areas. Sometimes grain variability in the flooring also accentuates this character as well. With this grain variability, Ash would seem similar to Hickory flooring except that the color contrast between light and dark wood portions in Ash is not as high-contrast as Hickory. In addition the tone of Ash wood flooring is slightly more golden overall.

Ash is an excellent look for your hardwood floor if you appreciate the strong grain pattern of an oak, but you want something more unique and a little different. If the color variation is not your thing, you can always choose one of our stains (clear, gray, light brown, dark brown and espresso), which evens out the tones across the wood floor.

Ash Wood Wear

Ash is a very hard North American Hardwood that will be resilient to wear in an active space, and is often used in other applications including axe handles and baseball bats.

History

Ash trees were historically common across most of North America and Europe, where they played a role in Norse mythology and early tooling for North American Settlers. Ash wood is considered a superior material in baseball bats, axe handles and many kinds of guitars because it is similarly hard but it is more flexible than the typical alternative, hard maple.

Unfortunately existing Ash trees are under threat by the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive insect that kills standing trees. Luckily, the Ash Borer is unlikely to drive the Ash tree species extinct, especially with the help of conservationists, but adult ash trees are likely to become more rare over the next 50-100 years while populations rebound.

Why Steller Ash Hardwood?

In a Steller hardwood floor, Ash flooring is an excellent choice! Since Ash has a lot of character and interest, choosing where to put your favorite wood planks could be very difficult, and so it is a good thing that if you want to move planks around, you can use your suction cup to make adjustments to your wood flooring on the fly. But no matter which order you place your planks, the white-gold hue and light-reflecting properties will make a statement in your home or office.
