Standard Warranty
This standard warranty applies to all product sales from Steller Floors and does not require any additional purchase.
COVERAGE PERIOD. 30 days following delivery
COVERED MATERIAL. This warranty applies to the individual board, boards, clip or clips. If the product is proven to be defective according to the warranty terms, including Customer’s responsibilities, then the individual piece or pieces that are determined to be defective, are covered under the warranty, not the whole of the order unless all the pieces are determined to be defective.
Flooring Plank Guarantees
- Upon delivery, wood planks are guaranteed to be free from material and manufacturing defects and in a condition meeting or exceeding National Hardwood Flooring Association (NWFA) Guidelines for hardwood flooring.
- Planks will be fully finished with polyurethane on the wear surface with the finish choice specified on the signed and accepted quote or purchase order.
- Flooring will be made at 6-9% moisture content, approximately 45% humidity and planks will be sealed on the additional sides to resist changes due to moisture.
- Planks will be flat and straight on all sides at shipment and after proper acclimation to a consistent climate.
Assembly Clip Guarantees
- Upon delivery, plastic assembly clips are guaranteed to be free from material and manufacturing defects and homogenous in shape and function to accept and release the wood planks when used according to Steller Floors’ guidelines.
Material Only
- This warranty is limited to material replacement only and does not cover labor costs, including installation, removal, or replacement labor. Replacement materials for defective product will be provided at no cost to the customer but defective material must be returned to Steller Floors.
RECOMMENDED PRODUCT REGISTRATION. To maximize Customer satisfaction, we encourage all Customers to register for our Continuing Commitment program within 30 days of receipt. Participation provides Steller Floors the opportunity to anticipate Customer needs and includes benefits such as faster customer service and recommended maintenance.
CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES. Customers are required to follow all installation and maintenance guidelines for the warranty to be in effect. This warranty is not applicable where accidents, abuse, misuse, flooding, improper installation, improper maintenance, freight damage, or natural disasters have contributed to any defect. Further, the following specific conditions and exclusions apply:
- Pre-Installation Inspection for Surface Defects: Customer and/or installer must inspect flooring for color and finish defects within 30 days of receipt and before installation to claim a manufacturing defect. After 30 days or after installation, the product is deemed to have been received in acceptable condition and claims for surface defects are not covered.
- Installation Per Instructions: Customers and installers must follow Steller Floors’ Installation Instructions including, but not limited to 1) proper subfloor preparation to ensure appropriate firmness and flatness, 2) installing the floor with appropriate gaps and orientations 3) acclimating the material for a time sufficient to allow transition to the Customer’s desired humidity center point.
- Time to Acclimate: Acclimation is the natural process by which a wood floor slowly adapts to changes in interior humidity (RH). All wood floors exchange moisture with their environment throughout their lifetimes which necessarily results in small changes in geometry as planks reach a new equilibrium.
- Primary acclimation: When a wood floor is introduced to a new physical environment, the moisture content of the planks may no longer match the RH of its surroundings, in which case acclimation time must be provided before installation.
- Secondary acclimation: After installation, the planks will continue to respond to interior climate conditions. When conditions vary away from an expected center point due to seasonal, environmental or event-driven changes, acclimation will occur again, and sufficient time should be provided in each instance to allow the flooring to adapt to new conditions.
- Customer recognizes, therefore, that only sustained measurements of deviations are true indications of defectiveness. Customer agrees to provide sufficient time for wood to acclimate and agrees to take multiple measurements over time, sharing those measurements or samples with Steller Floors if requested, to determine defectiveness. Acclimation requirements and recommendations are detailed in the Installation Instructions.
- Near-term Humidity Changes: Steller Floors wood planks are guaranteed to maintain shape and function over a broad range of humidity conditions. However, rapidly exposing planks to new and significantly different environmental conditions may cause temporary shape changes within the first 14 days. This most often occurs upon a change in location (i.e. delivery) or when intentional humidification or dehumidification is rapidly applied or altered. The warranty does not apply to this temporary effect because when the planks equilibrate to the new conditions, they will return to their original shape. Only changes that result in permanent shape changes are covered by this warranty.
- Long-term Humidity Changes: Secondary acclimation events may cause excessive, undesirable dimensional variation if installed improperly, if climate control is insufficient or if unintentionally exposed to significant moisture. Excessive contraction (decrease in moisture) can result in gapping. Expansion (increase in moisture) that causes flooring to exceed its expansion gap, as installed, can cause buckling that relieves potentially damaging pressure - a feature exclusive to Steller Floors. In these cases, the flooring assembly can be easily restored by correcting the climate to match the installation or correcting the installation to match the climate and are not covered by this warranty. Refer to the Installation Instructions for proper installation and/or submit a Continuing Commitment ticket (described below) to receive guidance from Steller Floors in how to best address the circumstance.
- Normal Wear and Tear: Claims related to normal wear and tear including gloss reduction, scratches, dents, and changes in color due to sunlight, are not covered by this warranty.
- Natural Characteristics: The color, grain and character variations within and between boards (including pre-purchase samples) of a given species and stain as selected by the customer are not covered by this warranty.
- Noise: Sounds such as squeaking or popping that are attributable to subfloor or changing environmental conditions are not covered by this warranty.
- Product Use: This warranty applies to indoor residential use only, including multi-family residential. Any product used in commercial settings (e.g. including but not limited to office, retail, public spaces), not installed according to Installation Instruction, used outside of the NWFA conditions or stored outside, is not covered by this warranty.
- Inspection Rights: Steller Floors reserves the right to inspect and/or request samples, photos or videos of reported defects.
- Steps for Submitting a Warranty Claim or Request for Product Support: Warranty claims and product support requests can be initiated by submitting a Continuing Commitment ticket. Information available at www.floorsbysteller.com/cc
Waiver of Implied Warranties. EXCEPT FOR ANY EXPRESS WARRANTIES UNDER THIS AGREEMENT (INCLUDING THE STANDARD AND LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTIES), THE PARTIES HEREBY DISCLAIM ANY AND ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY AND IMPLIED WARRANTY OF FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
Limited Lifetime Warranty Addendum
This enhanced warranty addendum only applies, and is only in effect, if purchased with the original flooring purchase. Steller Floors takes pride in manufacturing precision flooring that retains its integrity and ease of use indefinitely. While Steller Floors can’t control the limitless circumstances your floor may experience, we are confident in the quality of our product and the ease with which it can be modified and repaired that it can accommodate those circumstances better than any other wood floor available. As evidence of this confidence, we proudly offer the following Limited Lifetime Warranty which incorporates and appends the Standard Warranty.
LIFETIME COVERAGE APPLIES TO THE ORIGINAL OWNER ONLY. The warranty may be registered one time by the Customer, the Original Owner and user of the material. It will not apply to the installer or contractor unless they also remain the material owner post-install. In the event the material was purchased by an installer or contractor, for use by a current or subsequent owner, this warranty may be registered or assigned to the subsequent material owner. In such an instance, it is purchaser’s responsibility to comply with the Warranty Registration requirements herein and facilitate the ultimate assignment or warranty registration when the subsequent owner is identified.
LIFETIME COVERAGE PERIOD. This warranty remains in effect for the duration the Original Owner owns the material.
LIFETIME WARRANTY ACTIVATION REQUIRES REGISTRATION. To activate and put in effect this Limited Lifetime Warranty, the Customer MUST, within 30 days of receipt, submit to Steller Floors, through its Continuing Commitment program, information about their installation, including the temperature and humidity conditions in the environment where the product will be stored or used. Charges for the Lifetime Limited Warranty are non-refundable if Customer fails to comply with this requirement.
ADDITIONAL LIFETIME WARRANTY COVERAGE CONDITIONS
Flooring Planks
- Planks will be flat and straight on all sides at shipment and remain so after proper acclimation to a consistent climate. Planks are covered by this commitment EVEN IF DEFECTS ARE IDENTIFIED AFTER INSTALLATION for as long as the floor is owned by the Original Owner. Any modification to planks that removes sealant without resealing or prohibits planks from floating freely and independently over the subfloor (with the exception of specialty assembly lips provided by Steller Floors) will void this warranty.
- Steller Floors will replace any standard wood planks not meeting these standards free of charge, even if they were custom colors. In the case of planks with custom wood, Steller Floors, may at its sole discretion and in lieu of replacement, issue a refund of the original purchase price on a pro-rated basis (based on the proportion of purchase deemed defective) in the event material is no longer readily available. Customer must return defective material to Steller Floors if requested.
Assembly Clip
- Plastic flooring clips are guaranteed to remain homogenous in shape and function to accept and release the wood planks when used according to Steller Floors’ guidelines. Assembly Clip is covered by this commitment EVEN IF DEFECTS ARE IDENTIFIED AFTER INSTALLATION for as long as the floor is owned by the Original Owner.
- Failed clips will be replaced at no charge.
Subfloor Heating & Cooling Compatibility
- The flooring can be used over subfloor heating, provided the heating method is based on hydronic or polymer heating methods and never exceeds 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
- The flooring can be used over subfloor cooling, provided its temperature never drops below the local, variable dew point.
Use Above Grade, Below Grade and over Concrete
- This warranty applies to below grade installations, above grade installations, and installations over concrete provided proper moisture mitigation techniques, such as moisture barriers, have been applied. In many cases, below grade installations should be considered a separate climate and installed accordingly.
